According to statistics from the Database of Teacher Records and 618g, more than half of Headteachers in England will reach retirement age in the next ten years.
"I find these statistics deeply troubling. They seem to suggest a potentially serious problem not just for the schools of South Manchester, but indeed those of the entire nation. After years of short-sighted and misguided education policy, it is now clearer than ever that the Government is simply not prepared to deal with this crisis.
"With teachers increasingly overstrained, the time to address this issue with a truly effective education policy is now. I know the difficulty local schools have had in recruiting Headteachers in South Manchester, and the situation is getting worse, not better. We must act on our responsibility to train and support a new generation of Headteachers for the sake of our most precious resource: our children."
