Former Manchester City footballer, Frank Swift, was also killed in the disaster

MP for Manchester Withington, John Leech, is joining with football fans across the city and beyond in remembering the Munich disaster in which eight Manchester United players were killed, alongside eight newspaper journalists and seven staff and crew.

John Leech, a lifelong Manchester City fan, said:

'Normally Manchester is a city divided by football rivalries. But this Sunday, when the derby takes place, I hope that fans will join together to pay tribute to the talented footballers lost at Munich, and the news crew and staff that accompanied them.'
