MP for Manchester Withington backs Citizens' Convention Bill

3.52.38pm GMT Wed 12th Mar 2008

Liberal Democrat MP for Manchester Withington, John Leech, has called for local people to become more involved in decision making and have more of a say in how they are governed.

John Leech MP said:

'Across the political spectrum it is recognised that there is an urgent need for democratic reform. Public trust in politics and politicians is at an all time low.

'The Citizens' Convention Bill would directly address this and the government would be required to actively engage with those most dissatisfied and disengaged with the current system.'
