John Leech, Liberal Democrat MP for Withington, has congratulated the British team on its success at the World Indoor Cycling Championships in Manchester.

"It is fantastic to see British athletes doing so well in such a highly competitive field, and to bring home 10 medals is an outstanding achievement." John said.

He went on to recognise the world class quality of the Manchester Velodrome, saying, "This fantastic facility is a credit to our city, and shows Manchester to be at the forefront of international competition".

John has supported a parliamentary motion declaring the Velodrome to be an ideal venue to hold the 2012 Olympic cycling competition, saving money from the already overspent budget, and further showcasing Manchester's credentials as a major sporting city.
