MP backs campaign to save Crime Reduction Adviser3.08.43pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 19th May 2009 Lib Dem MP for Withington, John Leech, yesterday called on the Home Secretary to back the "Save our Steve" Campaign and persuade GMP to keep Steve Hobson in his Crime Reduction Adviser's job. John Leech said: "Steve has served the people of Greater Manchester for 30 years. He has done as much as any police officer in Manchester to help tackle crime and has been integral in establishing many successful community-based crime prevention initiatives like Youth Divisionary Work and Valuing Older People. It would be a real loss to the area if Steve were unable to remain in post." Mr Leech is backing the petition, which has been created by members of the South Manchester division of GMP and calls on police bosses to keep Mr Hobson in his post. John Leech added: "As things stand there's a real possibility that Steve's knowledge on key issues will be permanently lost by the force, which is why it's so important for local people to back the petition and keep him in place. As such, in addition to raising the matter in Parliament, I have signed the 'Save our Steve' petition to show my support."
