MP welcomes young journalist to Parliament3.58.05pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 7th Jul 2009
Lib Dem MP John Leech has congratulated a Chorlton primary school pupil on winning a national journalism award. Dylan Hardman, 9, a pupil at Chorlton Church of England Primary saw of stiff competition to win First News' Young Journalist category for the 7-10 age group. At the awards ceremony, which took place at the House of Commons, Dylan and his father were congratulated by Mr Leech who then took them on a VIP tour through the Houses of Parliament. The event was part of a campaign geared towards promoting a healthy way for young people to deal with the causes and effects of conflict. John Leech said: "Dylan has done remarkably well to win this prestigious award. Over 230,000 pupils took part in the competition, so for him to win one of the categories is a real achievement for both him and the school." "I was really pleased to be able to welcome Dylan and his Dad to Westminster and to see him pick up his award. I hope it inspires him and others to work hard at school and I look forward to seeing his name in print in the not too distant future." <ENDS>
