MP reacts to news of Chorlton Meadows application withdrawal4.26.00pm GMT Thu 14th Jan 2010
Speaking after the planning application for the development of Chorlton Meadows was withdrawn, John Leech said: 'I am delighted that the committee members listened to local residents and were planning to throw out the application before it was withdrawn. We all want to see improvements in local amenities, but these plans were just not right for Chorlton Meadows. 'The impact of the all-weather pitch would have been unacceptable. It would have completely changed the meadows, damaging the environment and affecting local residents.' Chorlton councillor Paul Ankers added: 'We were disappointed when the council backed the plans originally as Chorlton Lib Dems were opposed to them from the beginning.' Local campaigner Victor Chamberlain commented: 'This is a great result for Chorlton and is thanks to the outstanding efforts of the Save Chorlton Meadows group who worked tirelessly to oppose the plans.' <ENDS>
